Joy is the director and head coach of Mizuno Long Beach. Between 2009-2014 she coached at UCLA wining an NCAA championship in 2011. She has also coached at Golden West College and Long Beach State. She has won a Gold Medal with the NORCECA with the USA Junior National Team. As a player went to 3 of the final fours and won a National Championship in 1993. She is the mom of Mateo and Charlie who both play for the club.

Megan Moenoa

LOVB 18-1
Megan Moenoa started her coaching career at UC Irvine and is currently on staff at USC as an assistant coach. She enters her 4th season at Mizuno Long Beach, but is no strager to our program. She player her entire club career at Mizuno winning a Gold Medal in the 17 Open Division. She went on the play at UCLA bringing home a NCAA National Championship in 2011.

Blossom Sato

Blossom enters her second season coaching for Mizuno Long Beach. She played at Pepperdine University where she was a standout setter earning All-WCC Conference honors. Blossom has coached at Pacific Junior Volleyball Club and Oaks Volleyball Club. Blossom is currently on staff as an assistant coach at Pepperdine University.

Sabryn Roberts

Sabryn Roberts is entering her 3rd season coaching on the Mizuno/Rockstar side. She went to North Torrance High School and played at Mizuno for 6 years, winning a few medals during her club volleyball campaign. Attended Boise State University on a full-ride scholarship winning a conference championship, making the all-time career kills list, and graduating with a Bachelor's in communications. After college, she pursued a career playing professional volleyball overseas for a few seasons in Greece, France, Switzerland, and Peru. Deciding to hang it up, Sabryn chose the coaching career serving as an assistant coach for the LMU women's volleyball program in the fall of 2023, and is now currently coaching at Bishop Montgomery with the girl's program.

Stephanie Bonomi

Stephanie Alpenia Bonomi is in her 25th year of coaching at Mizuno Long Beach. She coached at St. Josephs in the 0s. She was the 1st 1980 NAIA Player of the Year and a 3-Time All-American at Azusa Pacific University. While at APU, she won 2 consecutive WAIAW/NAIA Championships. She was inducted into the Azusa Pacific University Hall of Fame.

Libby Fontanilla

Libby will be entering her 6th year at Mizuno where she has coached numerous different age groups. Head coaching her first top team at Mizuno in the 14s division in 2023 and finishing 5th at Junior Olympics in the Open Division. She has had more than 12 years of experience in coaching all different levels of girls, boys, and at the women's college level including her coaching career for 3 years as a volunteer assistant at Long Beach State under Joy and Matt Fuerbringer in 2018-2020. She started her playing career at Santiago High School in Corona. She then went on to play collegiate volleyball at Long Beach State under legendary head coach Brian Gimillaro. She went into Long Beach in 2009 as a DS/Outside and transitioned her last year in 2013 to the starting libero spot. While she was at Long Beach in 2012, Libby was part of the first-ever collegiate beach volleyball team finishing second behind Pepperdine in Alabama. In 2013, Libby and her team ended up winning the second-ever Beach National Championship against Pepperdine. Outside of coaching, she is a dedicated mother and known for curating high vibes and dancing at any given time.

Adam is in his 3rd year at MLB and is coaching 16 Rockstar A and floating for 14 Rockstar L. He played 2 years at Missouri Valley College as a libero and started coaching after for his 13th season. Aside from the volley, he loves to get outdoors with his wife, Gabby, and their doggo Hunter. Cooking is his passion in his free time and he loves to make his own spice mixes. He is really hoping to get out and ski more this winter. He moved to Reno 3 years ago and finds skiing challenging but exciting.

Carlos has been coaching volleyball for over 25 years. This year will be his 6th consecutive year coaching 15 Rockstar C and 13 Rockstar C. Carlos specializes in training elite and developmental players. Carlos has an extremely successful rate when it comes to developing players that have little to no experience. Carlos prides himself on developing and nurturing a positive team culture, presenting clear expectations and cultivating a robust learning environment that promotes overall team success. Carlos played college volleyball for the University of Hawaii at Manoa where he earned All American Honors. After his college career, Carlos joined the USA Men’s National Team in 1992 and earned an Olympic Bronze Medal. Carlos has also played on the FIVB tour where he won two silver medals at the Goodwill Games and World Championships.

Naomi enters her 9th Season with Mizuno Long Beach. She currently coaches the girls volleyball team at Long Beach Poly High School. Naomi played here at Mizuno and earned a scholarship to play at Hope International University. She comes from a family of volleyball players that have gone through and are going through the program. In 2018, her 12 Mizuno team won a Gold Medal at Junior Nationals. Naomi also coaches on our Rockstar side and has earned 2 Silver Medals with our Boys teams.

Lance Aoki

Lance is one of the founding coaches at Mizuno and is a top SoCal trainer and private coach. He has been coaching volleyball for over 25 years. He won a CIF Championship coaching at St. Joseph HS, in Lakewood, and his teams have finished in the top 10 numerous times at Junior Nationals. He has also been a head trainer for Mizuno for 16 years, directing various camps and clinics. Lance is a graduate of Cal State Fullerton with a degree in Communications and Advertising. In 2019, his 13 Rockstar team won the 13 Open at Junior Nationals. Last season at the 2024 GJNC, the 13 Rockstar team took 3rd in the Open Division.

Ghie enters his second season of coaching for Mizuno Long Beach. Ghie attended Westcliff University, where he played for the Indoor and beach volleyball men's team. With his time at Westcliff, he left with the first ever Men's Beach Volleyball National title. After a successful career, he played in the Semi-Pro league in America.

Brooklyn Schirmer

Brooklyn enters her 2nd year coaching for Mizuno. Brooklyn played at Mizuno for 7 years before attending USC. She was named to three all-tournament teams and received seven tournament medals. She helped Mizuno win the 2017 Girls Junior National Championships, a member of the USAV A1 Red, Select and Future Select squads. She helped US win Silver at the Norceca Event in Puerto Rico. Last year, Brooklyn coached 13 Rockstar who won 3rd in the Open Division.

Alo Fasavalu

This will be Alo’s first year coaching at Mizuno Long Beach. She is no stranger to the game having coached at Houston Skyline and Team Colorado. Alo played at Jordan High School in Long Beach where she was a standout player and earned different awards. She continued her career and went on the play at Kansas State. She most recently started a program called Va’i”vasa athletics as a labor of love and a way to give back to her volleyball and pasifika community. She is most excited about being able to coach back in her hometown of Long Beach.

Tiffany Rodriguez

Tiffany returns for her 12th season with Mizuno Long Beach. She played her collegiate career at UC Boulder and the University of Arizona. Tiffany helped lead Boulder to its first ever NCAA appearance and was an Academic All-Big 8 selection. She also collected multiple MVP awards at tournaments throughout her career. Tiffany played professionally on the WPVA and the AVP pro beach tour. Tiffany’s club experience spans over 20 years, coaching both boys and girls juniors. In the plus 20 years Tiffany has been coaching the 12 and under division she is the most winningest coach in the SCVA. Her 2010 12’s & 13’s teams both finished 5th at Junior Nationals. In 2012 her 12’s team finished in the top 5 at Junior Nationals. In 2018 her 12’s team won Gold at Red Rock Rave, won Gold at PNQ and won Gold at Junior Nationals. Tiffany was named Mizuno Long Beach Coach of the Year for the 2018-19 season. The 2023-24 season has been nothing short of the norm…The 12 Rockstars place 1st in Open at the Triple Crown in Kansas City to start the season opener. They are undefeated in the SCVA with 4 consecutive tournament wins. Gold medalist at Red Rock Rave and a bid to the Junior Olympics.

Lyanna Garcia

Lyanna returns for her fifth season at Mizuno Long Beach. She attended Bishop Montgomery High School where she was a member of the varsity team for four years and a three time Del Rey League champion. A former player of the club, Lyanna returns to Mizuno after attending Long Beach State. She is also entering her third season with Team Rockstar. Lyanna is a former boy’s volleyball coach at Los Alamitos High School and is currently in her fourth season coaching for their girl’s volleyball program. In 2022, her 12 Mizuno team won silver at SCVA’s Summer Soirée. In 2023, her boys 13 Rockstar team won silver at AAU Nationals. This past season, her 12's team finished 9th overall in SCVA and placed 5th in Patriot at Junior Nationals.

Rob Cordero

14 Rockstar R
Rob Cordero had a standout career as a setter in the men's volleyball program from 2011 to 2014 at Park University in Parkville, MO. As a player, Cordero left Park with more assists than any setter in school history, totaling 4,384, as well as 230 kills, 94 aces and 567 digs and averaged 10.49 assists per set. Rob also played in 3 back-to-back finals with Park at the NAIA Nationals and helped the team win two of those national championships. He was a 3 time First-Team All American, 3 times conference setter of the year, and on his last year was named the National and finals MVP. Rob also played for his homeland national team in Venezuela and represented his country in various competitions in South Americas tournaments and World Cup. Rob also was a GA with Park where he was part of the coaching staff assisting the males and females’ team where he also won a National championship with the men’s team in 2017 and another national championship with the women’s team in 2018. Rob also coached at the club level in Kansas City, MO for the ages of 7, 14, 15, 16, and 17.

This will be Zachary's 1st season with Mizuno. He will be coaching 13 Mizuno & 14 Mizuno-Hawk. Hailing from Texas, Hawk began his coaching career at Menlo College where he spent 2 seasons on the Men's & Women's teams, producing 2 All-Americans & the most wins in program history. As a player, he played collegiate volleyball at Grossmont College, finishing top 5 in the state. Eventually, finishing his career at Lourdes University where he won two conference championships.

Kai played for Mizuno Long Beach Volleyball Club for four years before competing at the Division 1 level with the Army West Point volleyball team. During her freshman year, she won a conference championship and advanced to the NCAA tournament, showcasing her versatility by playing both middle and outside positions throughout 4 years. Kai graduated from West Point in 2024 and was commissioned as an aviation officer in the U.S. Army. She also earned an academic scholarship through the prestigious GEM Scholarship, enabling her to pursue a master's degree in Health Systems Engineering at the University of Southern California.

Keira enters her 9th season with Mizuno Long Beach. She went to Norwich University in Northfield, VT and became a starting player her freshman year. She was named Defensive Player of the Year 2007 for her team. After graduating in 2011 with her Bachelor of Science in Management, she came back home to SoCal and started coaching club volleyball with Santa Monica Volleyball Club. While at Mizuno LB, she has helped coach 12 Rockstar T to multiple Qualifier wins (2020-2022).

Irina Malysheva

12 Mizuno I / MAC Academy Head Coach
Irina began her coaching career in 1975 in Kazakhstan and continued in Russia at specialized sports academies. A distinctive feature of these academies was the long-term development of athletes, with players working under the same coach for 8-10 years. Irina's tenure in this system resulted in her achieving multiple national championships in Kazakhstan, the USSR, and Russia. She also successfully developed eight athletes who went on to compete for nationals teams. In 2000, Irina transitioned to coaching in the US, joining the Mizuno Volleyball Club as an assistant coach for boys' teams (ages 12 and 15) and a girls' team (age 15). She is in her 5th season at Saint Joseph High School, where she is serving as the head coach for the freshman and JV teams ('00-'03). Additionally, she is assisting the Varsity team, helping lead them to numerous victories and a highly competitive record. In 2023, Irina became the head coach for the 12U and 15U teams at Seal Beach Volleyball Club. Throughout her career, she has focused on technical skill development and instilling a strong understanding of the game strategy and tactics. She has a passion for working with 2nd and 3rd teams, emphasizing the importance of fundamentals and long-term athlete growth. Irina also holds a degree with a specialization in the initial stages of volleyball skill development, having defended her own training program for children aged 6-9, which focuses on building a solid technical foundation and fostering a love for the game from an early age. This year, Irina returned to Mizuno Volleyball Club to work with MAC Academy and the younger teams, continuing her commitment to developing the next generation of volleyball players.

Mia enters her second season with Mizuno Long Beach. She is from Northern California. She has played volleyball since age 10 and enjoyed competing for Delta Valley and Pacific Coast Volleyball Club. She played in the European Global Challenge in the summer of 2016. Mia played at Cornerstone University in Michigan and earned an Elementary Education degree. Stephanie Moreno

Stephanie has over 20 years of coaching experience and is entering her first season with Mizuno. She played at the University of San Diego before returning home to the Bay Area where she started her coaching career at Menlo middle school, Menlo high school, and Menlo College. She returned to Southern California to coach at Cal State Fullerton before returning to her alma mater of USD where she was on the coaching staff for eight years. She has spent the last three years coaching at St. Lawrence Martyr and is looking forward to joining the Mizuno family.

Sonya enters her 1st year coaching at Mizuno Long Beach. She has 7 years of coaching experience having been a coach for Long Beach Volleyball Club. She currently coaches at Long Beach Poly High School and is the Head Coach of the Hughes Middle School Volleyball Team. She currently has two daughters in our program. A native of Fresno, Alexis has been a part of the Mizuno Volleyball Club coaching staff for over 15 years. She earned an athletic scholarship to play at California State University, Northridge where she played 4 years as outside hitter and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Communication Studies. She has experience coaching at club, high school and junior college levels. Alexis is one of our head trainers and leads camps and clinics year round at the MAC.
